Athens, as you don't know it

Day 2

We will spend the whole day in the city center, where every corner smells of history and juicy gyros.

We will climb to the Acropolis , walk through the Plaka and Monastiraki districts, catch a glimpse of the ceremonial changing of the guards at Syntagma, smell the spices in the market and taste olives, cheese and gyros. And if you want, you can wait with us until the city turns golden at sunset over Athens. This will be followed by dinner together.

Slowly and smoothly

Day 3

The morning is yours – you can stretch out by the pool, have a Greek coffee under a fig tree, or just breathe deeply.

In the afternoon we will start with the main thing: feeding the yeast, preparing the dough and all that watching how the mixture of flour and water slowly becomes bread. We will finish the evening with a dinner in the spirit of Greek hospitality.

A crunch you won't forget

Day 4

In the morning, you'll be shaping and baking your first loaf of bread . You'll smell the aroma, hear the familiar crackling of the crust – and maybe even feel a little pride.

In the afternoon you can relax by the sea or take your own little trip. In the evening we will taste what each person has created, sit down, share. Just like at home. Only in Greece.

Day 5

In the morning, you'll take a short photography and food styling course from a professional with 10 years of experience in the field. You'll learn a few tricks that are not only suitable for Instagram, but also how to photograph your creation so that it smells good even through the screen.

Afternoon? Beach, peace, water, a book... or just the sea breeze. The evening is free - whoever wants to, can go to a tavern with us or just be as they please.

What others say about courses with Mari

Mari herself will guide you along the way – a professional baker.

Mari is a professional baker who has been making sourdough for 15 years. At that time, she quit her job at Porsche and decided it was time to focus on what she loves. During that time, she has appeared on Czech Radio , in magazines, and lectured in a well-known studio alongside other gastrosuperstars.

She graduated from bakery school after completing her fourth year of high school and now works mainly as a baking instructor. On her Instagram profile, she inspires almost 5,000 people every day that baking is more than just Sunday fun – but also that working with dough works as a form of therapy.

She has lived in Greece since 1999, when she first visited the island of Ithaca, and has been returning to Greece regularly ever since. She says that time passes differently there and baking there, thanks to the right climate and the energy of the locals, does wonders for the crust and the soul.

Bread as a picture

Alenka will guide you through the food styling course. She is a complete pro when it comes to visuals. Since 2015, she has worked in international advertising agencies, where she has progressed from a graphic designer to a senior art director . She has worked and still works on global brands.

Among her best projects are the food and lifestyle sections, and between 2016 and 2019, she completely overhauled the visual identity of McDonald's dessert campaigns as part of the team. They sold out before you could say "plum". Last but not least, she has a few prestigious awards to her credit, but the most important thing of all is the fact that she puts her heart into her work and everyone who comes into contact with her gets a whole new charge of energy and a new and creative view of the world.

Accommodations

Enjoy private accommodation in a beautiful villa in one of the city districts of Athens, with several bedrooms, a shared living area and a kitchen with an oven. There is a terrace with sea views and a small swimming pool.

The rooms are shared. It is therefore ideal to travel in pairs. If you prefer a separate room, please contact us and we will price the room individually or come up with another alternative and, for example, find a place just for you.

Do I need to have any knowledge about baking bread?

You don't have to. Mari will teach you everything from the basics to practical advice for advanced users. She will walk you through everything practically and theoretically, but if you would like to get started in advance, you can check out the Home Baking School or download the free e-book about yeast.

Transport

We recommend flying. Transport is not included in the price , but we can arrange flights or help you find a good connection. We then use public transport on site and it is included in the course - you can wander around Athens at your leisure as you need.

Luggage

We recommend traveling light with only hand luggage. The advantage is that you don't have to wait for your suitcase and the price of the flight is usually lower.

But if you prefer larger luggage, no problem - we can help with that too.

What to pack with you?

We will provide everything for the baking course - from ingredients to baking trays, you don't have to bring anything.

As for clothing , we recommend checking the current weather before your trip and choosing what will be suitable. However, I definitely recommend bringing warmer clothes for the evening.

Dining

Breakfast is included in the price - an absolutely amazing combination of home-baked and local Greek specialties, prepared by Mari. We go to dinner together, everyone pays for themselves.

The exception will be a joint Greek evening , which we will prepare as a separate small workshop of Greek delicacies, which is included in the course price.
